This is the story of the life and times of George Saitoti, a mathematics professor at the University of Nairobi whom President Daniel arap Moi nominated to Parliament appointed Minister for Finance in 1983. He would later be Kenya’s longest serving Vice President before falling out with Moi and joining the opposition NARC party. He became a key member of the government of Moi’s successor and NARC leader, Mwai Kibaki, holding the key docket of internal security during Kibaki’s second term that started with the controversial 2007 presidential election. His ambitions of succeeding Kibaki to the presidency were cut short when he died in a helicopter crash in June 2012 a few months before the presidential election was to take place.
